The Department of Mathematics was established at the Myanmar Mercantile Marine College in 2005. Mathematics Department offers two diploma courses: Diploma in Nautical Studies and Diploma in Maritime Technology.
Course Aim
These Diploma Courses are aimed to provide the cadet with basic knowledge of various nautical and engineering knowledge. The cadet will be able to apply their mathematical proficiency regarding navigation and engineering, calculation while serving on board shipping. The course takes fully account of Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers, 1978 as amended in 2010.
Leading Objectives
The cadets will understand Logarithms, Ratio, Proportion, Variation, Interpolation, Ellipse, Hyperbola and Geometry etc.
The cadets will be able to apply their mathematics proficiency regarding navigation and engineering, calculation of stress, force, Trigonometry, Mensuration and Spherical Triangle etc. while serving on board shipping
