Under the auspices of Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Transport and Communication, Nautical and Engineering courses were conducted initially in 1963 at Naval Training School, Seikyee. A pilot project for the training of Merchant Navy personnel was drawn up and the Mercantile Marine Training School was established on 1st, October,1971. The Institute of Marine Technology (IMT) was then solely put under Ministry of Transport and Communication on 15th, March, 1972. On 13th January 2005, IMT obtained new organizational strength approved by State Peace and Development Council (S.P.D.C.) on the resolution of Cabinet meeting 2/2005. Furthermore, our Institute has been accredited with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certification by ABS and North America Accreditation Service ANAB. With steady continual improvements in teaching and training methodology coupled with advance up to date Deck and Engine Room Simulators, the Government Cabinet made a decision on 25th March, 2009 to upgrade IMT to Myanmar Mercantile Marine College (MMMC). Today, we are a very proud tertiary maritime college.
